Define Poetry...

 

Most hear the word "poetry" and think roses are red violets are blue yada yada yada......but that isn't poetry. Poetry is...poetry is... Hell, poetry cannot be defined, but if I must define it then poetry is a quality of beauty coupled with the intensity of emotion. My name is Joel Santos and I am a spoken word poet. Growing up in NYC I learned that a man needs a voice and any voice that wants to heard needs a message. My voice, assisted by my pen, speaks from my experiences and is facilitated by the medium of my poetry; and I have a message. Much like one of the earliest "spoken word poets," Geoffrey Chaucer, and his famous, "Canterbury Tales," my poetry is meant to entertain and to tell a story. My goal is to ignite the hearts and spark the minds of my listeners until a wildfire burns with an uncontrolled fervor for this age old literary style. This world and the people in it are a quality of beauty coupled with the intensity of emotion. This world, with you as a part of it, is poetry.
